Garage Door Panel Replacement & Repair
Single-panel and multi-panel garage door replacement across West Valley City, Salt Lake County, and surrounding areas. Most damaged panels can be replaced individually — no need for a whole new door. Honest assessment, flat pricing, and insurance documentation when applicable.
Honest assessment. Flat-rate pricing. No upsells.
You Don’t Always Need a Whole New Door
When a garage door panel gets damaged from a vehicle impact, storm, or accident, most companies’ first response is “you need a whole new door.” Sometimes that’s true — but often it isn’t. Modern garage doors are built in individual panel sections specifically so damaged ones can be replaced without scrapping the entire door. We’ll tell you honestly which scenario applies to your situation.
We replace damaged garage door panels across West Valley City, Salt Lake City, Sandy, West Jordan, Murray, Bountiful, and the rest of Salt Lake County. We provide insurance documentation for vehicle impact, storm damage, and vandalism claims, and we’ll tell you up front if your deductible is higher than the repair cost (sometimes paying out of pocket is the better answer). Call (801) 682-7586 and Brandon will assess your situation honestly.
Common Panel Damage We Repair:
Garage Door Services I Offer
I install and repair garage doors for homes and businesses across Salt Lake County, southern Davis County and Park City. Every job comes with a tune-up. When Panel Replacement Works (and When It Doesn’t)
NOT EVERY DAMAGED DOOR NEEDS A FULL REPLACEMENT — HERE’S HOW TO TELL.
Garage door panel replacement is one of the most misunderstood repairs in the industry. It works beautifully in some situations and doesn’t work at all in others. The honest answer depends on three things: the door’s age, the panel’s availability, and the scope of damage. Here’s how we assess each call:
Door is under 10 years old. Panel replacement almost always works on newer doors. Manufacturers still produce matching panels, color-matching is reliable, and adjacent panels are still in good condition. This is the easiest case.
Damage is isolated to one or two panels. If most of the door is structurally sound and only a panel or two is damaged, panel replacement is usually the right answer. Saves significantly over full door replacement.
Door brand and style are still in production. Most current Clopay, Amarr, Wayne Dalton, Hormann, and Martin doors have replacement panels readily available. We can usually source matching panels within 1-3 weeks.
Door is 10-15 years old. Sometimes works, sometimes doesn’t. Depends on whether the panel design is still in production and whether the rest of the door is still in good shape. We’ll tell you honestly after seeing the door.
Door is over 15 years old. Panel replacement often doesn’t make sense. Discontinued panel designs, color-matching issues, and the fact that other panels are aging at the same rate often favor full door replacement.
Door is a discontinued style. Specialty doors, vintage carriage-house styles, or doors from manufacturers that have stopped producing certain lines can be tricky. Sometimes we can find compatible panels; sometimes a full new door is the better answer.
Damage spans 3+ panels. When damage is widespread, the math usually favors full door replacement. Three or more panel replacements often costs close to or more than a new door.
Major structural damage to tracks or frames. If the door’s tracks, springs, or framing are damaged along with the panels, full replacement plus rebalancing usually makes more economic sense than chasing component-by-component repairs.
We give you the honest call after assessing the actual situation. If panel replacement works, that’s what we’ll quote. If full door replacement makes more sense, we’ll tell you why — and quote that instead. Call (801) 682-7586 for an honest assessment.
Types of Garage Door Panel Damage We Repair
EVERY TYPE OF DAMAGE HAS A DIFFERENT FIX — HERE’S HOW WE APPROACH EACH.
Garage door panel damage falls into several distinct categories, and each requires a different approach. Knowing the type matters because the fix isn’t always replacement — sometimes it’s repair. Here’s how we assess what your door needs:
- Bent or Dented Panels. Most common type of damage. Vehicle impact, falling objects, or sports equipment leave dents and bends. Minor dents can sometimes be popped out (especially on aluminum or thin-gauge steel). Severe dents and structural bends require panel replacement.
- Punctured or Torn Panels. Holes from sharp impacts, vandalism, or break-in attempts. Almost always require panel replacement — patches don’t restore structural integrity, and the panel will fail at the patch over time.
- Cracked or Split Panels. Cracks in steel or composite panels usually mean the panel has lost structural integrity. Spreads under door cycling stress. Replacement is the correct fix; attempting to repair leads to failure within months.
- Rusted or Corroded Panels. Common on older steel doors that lost their factory coating. Surface rust can sometimes be sanded and repainted. Through-rust (you can see daylight through the panel) means replacement is required.
- Weather or Sun Damage. Faded color, warped panels, or delaminated composite all happen over years of UV and weather exposure. Cosmetic-only damage might not require replacement; structural warping does.
- Storm or Wind Damage. Hail, wind-driven debris, and storm pressure can damage panels in ways that aren’t always immediately obvious. We inspect for hidden damage during repair — sometimes a single visible dent has weakened the panel structure underneath.
We assess the actual damage on arrival, not over the phone. Photos help us prepare, but the final quote comes after we’ve seen the panel and the rest of the door condition. Call (801) 682-7586 to schedule.

✓ Honest recommendation: panel replacement vs. full door replacement
✓ Color and finish matching to existing panels when available
✓ Replacement panel sourcing from manufacturer

What we don’t do: push full door replacement when panels work, hide insurance options, charge premium rates because you “have to” fix it, or surprise you with parts charges. Honest assessment and flat-rate pricing. Call (801) 682-7586 for an honest assessment.
The single most common cause of panel damage we see. Backing into the door, pulling out before it fully opens, or accidentally bumping the door with a vehicle. Usually covered by auto insurance (collision coverage). We document the damage for your insurance claim.
Hail, wind-driven debris, fallen branches, and severe storm pressure can damage panels in obvious or subtle ways. Often covered by homeowner’s insurance. We inspect for hidden damage during repair and document the damage state for claims.
Basketball hoops mounted to garage doors (or above them), kids playing with bats or sports equipment, and recreational activity damage. Common on family homes. Usually not covered by insurance unless the damage is severe enough to compromise security.
Years of sun exposure, weather cycles, and door cycling can cause panels to fade, warp, or delaminate. Not usually insurance-eligible. Repair vs. replacement depends on whether the damage is cosmetic or structural — we’ll tell you honestly.
Forced entry attempts, vandalism, or break-in damage to panels. Usually covered by homeowner’s insurance. Security-critical situations get prioritized response — we can secure the property even if full panel replacement requires next-day parts.
Lawn equipment, snow blowers, ladders, and tools accidentally hitting the door. Common on homes where the garage doubles as a workshop or storage space. Usually not insurance-eligible unless damage is severe. Quick replacement gets the door functional again.
Why Panel Replacement Beats DIY (and Beats Premature Full Replacement)
PANEL REPLACEMENT REQUIRES SPECIFIC TOOLS, CORRECT MATCHING, AND PROPER REBALANCING — DIY ATTEMPTS USUALLY FAIL.
Garage door panels look simple but installing them correctly requires specific knowledge: matching the right panel design, correctly mounting the panel without distorting the door, rebalancing the door’s springs after the swap, and ensuring weather seals are properly aligned. Beyond DIY concerns, professional panel replacement also prevents the unnecessary full-door replacements that other companies push. Here’s what you get:
- Honest assessment. We tell you whether panel replacement actually works for your situation, or whether full door replacement makes more economic sense. Many companies default to “you need a whole new door” because it’s higher revenue. We assess honestly and give you both numbers when applicable.
- Correct panel matching. Replacement panels need to match the existing door in design, color, finish, and gauge. Wrong matching looks bad and creates structural inconsistency. We work with manufacturers (Clopay, Amarr, Wayne Dalton, Hormann, Martin) to source the correct replacement panels for your door.
- Proper installation and balance. New panels change the door’s weight slightly, which affects spring tension and balance. Professional installation includes rebalancing the door so the opener doesn’t strain. DIY installs almost always skip this and end up burning out openers prematurely.
- Insurance documentation. For vehicle impact, storm, or vandalism damage, we provide written documentation that supports insurance claims. Photos, descriptions of damage, parts costs, and labor breakdown — what insurance companies actually need to process claims.
- Hidden damage inspection. Panel damage rarely happens in isolation. Vehicle impact often damages tracks and rollers. Storm damage may affect weather seals and adjacent panels. We inspect for hidden damage during the panel replacement so you don’t end up with a beautiful new panel on a structurally compromised door.
For most Salt Lake County homeowners, professional panel replacement costs less than the value of the time you’d spend trying to source and install a panel yourself — and dramatically less than a full door replacement when panels actually work. Call (801) 682-7586 for an honest assessment.
