When Replacement Makes More Sense Than Repair
TorqueMaster is a spring system I see a lot on new builds out here, and it’s a fixable design problem. From what I’ve seen, converting it to a standard torsion setup is the better fix and the more cost-effective one, compared with repairing the TorqueMaster again.
I’d rather fix a door than sell you a new one, and most of the time the repair is the right call. When a door’s old and worn out, though, I’ll tell you plainly it’s time for a new one.

Replacing a Garage Door in Daybreak
Daybreak has its own design rules for garage doors, and its Design Review Committee enforces them. A door can’t be taller than 9 feet, and it has to match the height of the other garage doors on the house. The color and style have to fit the home’s design, and the door has to be the home’s main trim color or an accent color the committee has approved.
Daybreak’s guidelines say no exterior work starts until the committee approves it, and you file that application. In my experience, swapping in a door in the same style as the one you have hasn’t been an issue there. A change to the look is what needs the committee first.

Garage Door Notes for South Jordan Homeowners
I diagnose the door before I replace anything. Most parts are already on the truck, so most jobs get finished the same day I’m out.
If your house is on the newer side, there’s a good chance it came with a TorqueMaster. Daybreak’s full of them, and so are the newer developments out in the west side of the Salt Lake Valley.
There’s no such thing as an upgraded drum or cable on a residential door. The parts come from the same suppliers across the board, so if someone’s selling you that upgrade, it’s an upsell.
Before a spring or an opener goes, the door usually starts to struggle or only opens a little before stopping. Most of the time, though, it just won’t open at all.
If the door won’t go down and the opener’s blinking, start with the photo eyes near the floor. On a LiftMaster, the green light is the one that matters: solid means they’re connecting, blinking means they’re not. Usually something’s in the path or a sensor got bumped.
Between about 5 and 15 years, a bad part is usually just a bad part and swapping it is the cheaper move. Close to 20 years and failing, a new opener makes more sense.
I don’t usually recommend a floor threshold, since in most cases it fights the bottom seal that’s already there. A seal in good shape handles most floors, so the real question is whether the seal’s shot or the concrete isn’t level.
